Shagbark hickory syrup is made from the bark, not by tapping the tree. We get all of our bark, sustainably harvested without damaging the trees, right here at Wild Ozark.
The bark is cleaned, toasted, and cooked until it produces a nice, strong tea – full of good hickory flavor. Then we add pure cane sugar and a little bit of hickory smoke flavor (all natural) to give it a bit of savory to go with the sweet. Cream of tartar is added to keep it from crystallizing.
